My PII-400 has no problems at all with Divx ;-) unless something in the
background
begins chewing a lot of CPU time (it happens). Are you running XFree-4? 
XFree-3 
will likely eat too many resources for just blitting the image if you
are trying
to play Divx ;-) files.
