[sorry, but as Greg mentioned, I can't reply to him directly] On Wed, Apr 12, 2000 at 04:00:43PM +0930, Greg Lehey wrote: > On Tuesday, 11 April 2000 at 15:12:06 -0400, Eric Ogren wrote: > > Hmm. The problem is, 99% of > all mail from Earthlink is spam, and we just can't be bothered with > the rest. Is this the kind of company you want to keep? Well, the question is more "Do I want to change my email address now, going through the procedure of unsubscribing/resubscribing/giving out my new email address to people, and then go through the same thing again in September (college)?" That, and, because I live in the middle of nowhere, there are very few ISPs that have a POP in my area, and those that do are usually either more expensive or don't have a flat rate. I am of course no supporter of spam, and if I wasn't relaying through earthlink's SMTP servers I wouldn't be surprised when my email got rejected. However, I am not so virulently anti-spam that I think it is justified to block a major ISP. It's not like earthlink is a 5 user ISP, where you may catch one user in the anti-spam crossfire; I would think that there are a good deal of non-spammers who use earthlink. Of course, my less-militant view on spam may be because I do not run an ISP myself, so I don't have to deal with 3*10^8 messages from spammers a day (instead, only 20), but...
