Well, to answer my own message..
I did get a crash using cdrecord as it exited.. But cdrecord doesn't usually crash.
Notably I was writing wav files, as opposed to an iso, and more than one track (1 iso track
normally works fine) I got the following trace from the cdrecord panic ->
