This is on a 4.5-PRERELEASE from about Wed Dec 26 18:41:29 PST 2001 built with CPUTYPE=k6-2. I burned a CD-RW with burncd, did a "diff xxx /dev/acd0c" and then thought I'd try to see how long a "file" it put on the CD with "wc /dev/acd0c" at which point it hung the device. I killed -9 the wc and xterm process but I could not make it kill the wc process or otherwise allow me to use the CD ("device busy"). Nothing strange in /var/log/messages. Had to reboot. That was yesterday. Today it hung up again (until rebooted) during a "burncd". In both cases I noticed that that hung process had a ps status of "DL". Maybe related: I've only burned a couple CDs (CD-Rs) a month for the last several, but the last two days I've been messing with 2x and 4x CD-RWs (which worked well under Linux on same hardware) and burncd has not been working well. Sometimes blanks OK, other times I have to try several times on the same CD-RW. With CD-Rs, it failed to write several until I got that blank (sometimes saying it wrote -1), until it hung. After reboot, I tried burning before starting X11 and had no more problems (buring three CD-Rs which were the same disks that failed to burn earlier). (They all were checked with "diff" without error.) ad0: 43979MB <IBM-DTLA-307045> [89355/16/63] at ata0-master tagged UDMA33 acd0: CD-RW <8X4X32> at ata1-master using PIO4 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
