This seems to have fixed my clock runaway problem on the SMP machine. That together with the two kernel options CLK_USE_TSC_CALIBRATION and CLK_USE_I8254_CALIBRATION has resulted in a frequency error of less than 1ppm, it seems. BTW It is probably not necessary to have the CLK_USE_TSC_CALIBRATION defined on SMP machines as they use the i8254.
