There is llan(4) now, but I don't think there's one for the VIO SCSI. With llan(4), you could at least boot diskless. I haven't had much luck with FreeBSD and VIOS however (see #279137). FWIW to people in the thread, I think I have spare hardware to test with. Let me try to inventory it, most of it is going to be POWER8.
