What am I missing ? From the numbers you gave us, the FreeBSD machine is 3
times *faster* than the Linux one for localhost ???

Anyway, localhost doesn't use ethernet at all. It is all handled into the
kernel, packets from/to 127.0.0.1 don't go over the wire...
