We commit to keeping rcOLD working on RELENG_4 to the end of RELENG_4. We commit to making rcNG available as an experimental option on RELENG_4 well before 4.7-RELEASE, as long as we think it's feasible to do so. We commit to keeping rcOLD working on HEAD / RELENG_5 as long as it's feasible to do so. We make rcNG the default for 5.0-RELEASE, so that the hurdle is encountered when upgraders are most expecting hurdles. We make it clear in the release notes for 5.0-RELEASE that rcOLD, while still supported, may go away at some point in the lifespan of RELENG_5. Seems to me that this would keep as many people happy as possible, without making any commitments that might hinder forward motion. Ciao, Sheldon.
