Haven't had any problems with mine:

(from smb.conf, Samba 2.0.3)
interfaces = 10.96.1.1/24 38.153.104.195/29 38.153.104.201/29

(pointing to interfaces fxp1, fxp0, and pn0, in that order)

Understated/funny man-page sentence of the current time period:

From route(4) on FreeBSD-3.4, DESCRIPTION section:
    "FreeBSD provides some packet routing facilities."
