I followed the handbook's instructions to set up my Audio PCI 128 card on FreeBSD 4.3: I added the "device pcm" line in my conf file, recompiled the kernel; rebooted, "/dev/MAKEDEV snd0" and everything seems to work fine except that I have no sound output (although xmms displays the nice analizer while playing). I also checked that mixer output were set to 100%. Update: I just found that booting first under linux then FreeBSD make the soundcard works, as if linux drivers initialize something that FreeBSD ones don't. Here is some outputs: bash-2.05$ uname -a FreeBSD chiral.raceme.loc 4.3-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.3-RELEASE #2: Sat Apr 28 18:22:53 CEST 2001 toor@chiral.raceme.loc:/usr/src/sys/compile/CHIRAL i386 bash-2.05$ cat /dev/sndstat FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm) Apr 28 2001 18:22:04 Installed devices: pcm0: <AudioPCI ES1371> at io 0xe400 irq 14 (1p/1r channels duplex) And for information here is the device as seen under linux: es1371: version v0.22 time 19:22:18 Apr 8 2001 es1371: found chip, vendor id 0x1274 device id 0x1371 revision 0x08 es1371: found es1371 rev 8 at io 0xe400 irq 14 es1371: features: joystick 0x200 es1371: codec vendor CRY (0x435259) revision 19 (0x13) es1371: codec features Headphone out 20bit DAC 18bit ADC es1371: stereo enhancement: Crystal Semiconductor 3D Stereo Enhancement To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
