I've tried to locate the offending rc file (the shell that init kicks off to run the jobs appears to be spinning in an "R" state, but it's not accumulating time!) but thus far have failed to do so. On a "normally running" system as long as sshd comes up everything looks ok. But if you need to log in via a console, whether serial or otherwise, it looks like it hung because the chain of things that have to run before that gets started *did* hang. Reverting to the u-boot port versions of said files fixes that.
