Certaionly it will depend on your specific load, but I run FreeBSD/amd64 
on a machine with only 1 GB of memory, and it's quite satisfactory. 
Firefox + Flash sometimes pushes it close to swapping, but it's fine 
otherwise.  I think you'll have no trouble.
