My solution to this problem is that I have one xterm always visible on my virtual screen, whose sole purpose is to get incoming talk requests and kernel messages. I make sure it grabs the first tty by inserting a small sleep in my .xinitrc. Now I need to run around trying to figure out where the beep is coming from (or won't notice it at all if I'm listening to the CD).... :( Satoshi
