Yeah, I tested it again by putting the same line in my crontab:
MAILTO="root"
*/5 * * * * root echo "Hello!"

I got the same message in my /var/log/maillog about "size=0, class=0, nrcpts=0".

I'm currently running 7.0-RELEASE-p2 on a custom kernel and recompiled world.
