I tried just holding the reset button on the front down, which resulted in the machine rebooting repeatedly. One of the tech's who looked at the machine said doing what you suggest didn't work, but I never tried it myself. Maybe I did it the hard way. Maybe it's dependent on the power supply. Dunno.
