I finally got my new( recently built freebsd box to connect to comcast @home) i used the instruction at www.freebsddiary.org/athome but it still didn't work. there were 2 reasons why the first was ipfw was configured with a default deny all ip so I would get a access denied message. i fixed that by adding a new rule for testing purposes only to allow all ip ( I don't intend to leave that rule but it was a quick fix for testing purposes) that got rid of the access denied message but pings were still disappearing no reply. finally I figured I would look at the rc files before running to look for help. rc.conf in /etc was fine but there was a line in the in the default rc.conf file in the that said the natd interface( the public interface) was my intel card not my 3com card. when i added a corrected line to /etc/rc.conf ping worked.YIPPEE. Now all i have to do is upgrade to stable rebuild my kernel add firewall rules and get natd running. again Yippee.
