Dear List,

	I currently own a voodoo3 3500. I've been banging my head against a brick wall trying to get DRI working with it for about a month using CVS 4.1.0. I'm not looking for help on that. Based on the luck I've had with the limited documentation I've found online,

<SCARCASM> I'm totally convinced at this point that nobody out there has a clue how to actually get it working. Those that have are in league with lucifer and stuff.
</SCARCASM>

Either way, I'm just the sick type of SOB that thoroughly enjoys figuring out crap like this on my own.

For those out there that actually have DRI working with 4.1.0 AND have quake3 arena 1.29 running AS A CLIENT, I have a few questions:

#1 What kind of performance are you getting with the card you are using? (NOTE: frames per second, color depth, goodies turned on in the game)

#2 What kind of card are you using?

#3 What card has the best bang? (NOTE: not best bang for the buck. I'm going to take the small fortune I've saved by not running microsoft crap and throw it all on the BEST card out there that works with FreeBSD 4.4, DRI, and Quake3)

#4 Anybody had luck with the recent ports version of 4.1.0?

I was happily quaking away with 3.3.6 and the linux voodoo3 driver until quake 1.27. For some reason, it just quit working. I spent a month trying to figure that out before giving up and going the DRI route. I figure 3DFX is gone anyway, so I should jump ship and find out what the best thing going now is. That and I REALLY miss rails only play. I've read a few places that the voodoo3 performance under DRI is slightly below lackluster at best.

I have a small server set up on my cable connection:

locnar.sawilson.com, default game port

and an info page set up at http://www.sawilson.com that has my hardware configuration, planned upgrades, and server information. Please feel free to check out what quake3 arena 1.29 server with the beryllium mod runs like on FreeBSD 4.4. I may be lurking around console saying things like "Nice score" and "!@#$ you, I wish I could play". If anybody has any questions on how to set up a server, I have that part down. Shoot me some mail and I'll help you out.

Once I know what the best card is, I'll probably make the same deal with the devil the rest of you must have made to get DRI working under FreeBSD. Anybody know her email address? I really miss playing.

Thanks In Advance for any information anyone can give me.

S.A.Wilson
