A bz2 is a file compressed with bzip, a drop-in replacement for gzip,
but with more efficient compression. A bzipped file is smaller than
the same file run through gzip and max compression.

bzip2 is in /usr/ports/archivers/bzip2. Go there and "make build". If
that works, "make install clean".

Syntax is generally the same as for gzip. You can untar with:
bunzip2 < file.bz2 | tar xf -
