Since I'm returning the whole thing for RMA (lacking a specific component as a smoking gun), I started erasing some of the personal files on the machine. So far, in XP, it has been up 6+ hours running cygwin's "shred" (bcwipe-like 35-overwrite secure file removal). Basically, lots of low-CPU, low-memory disk I/O. No problems found thus far as another data point.
