At Strathclyde University Telepresence Group we use FreeBSD
extensivly in our embedded systems.

We've used it to control the following
  stepper motors,
  PCMCIA cards,
  frame grabbers,
  PC/104 IO boards.
  hardware watchdog timers

Details are at
http://telepresence.dmem.strath.ac.uk/freebsd

and general information on the group is at
http://telepresence.dmem.strath.ac.uk

If anyone has any embedded FreeBSD questions, please feel free to
contact us.
