:- Revisions that have a "0" in the next-to-last position are special. RCS :- normally never creates such revision numbers. CVS takes advantage of :- that, and assigns a special meaning to them. They represent branch tags :- in CVS. A revision number of 1.7.0.4 _really_ means "the latest :- revision on the 1.7.4 branch."
