Check your /var/log/messages file when you run named to see what version of bind you're trying to run. On my 3.0-CURRENT box I'm using the bind that comes as part of the distribution: Jun 28 12:12:28 brane named[88]: starting. named 8.1.2 If your bind version is 8.x.x as opposed to 4.9.x, you'll need to fix your named.boot since the format has changed somewhat.
