This list has just been started to talk about FreeBSD ATM concerns. It appears we are some time away from providing ATM support for FreeBSD. I sent a sent a URL to the ATM list of a 155 Mbps project for Linux (http://lrcwww.epfl.ch/linux-atm), and I have only looked at their API document and listed their file names. I can't see that they implemented this in a device dependant/independant fashion. I don't want to look at their files until I know their use/reuse policy. I would like to start a dialog with FreeBSD ATM people about UNI, API AAL, LAN emulation, PVC/SVC, etc we want shoot for when we put together this code. I am sure we will all end up on a different switch/adapters and that will cause great (sarcastic) joy. I don't the particulars of the various cards, but I am sure some adapters will reassemble AAL5 packets and some will not leading to even more headaches/performance problems. Totally unrelated to the question, but my rambling mind has to comment on the fact SMC will soon have an ATM card out. --mark.
