I dont think the issue is about having the cash to get started with DSLAMs, but rather if the telcos are blocking the way for those who can. Dont forget - Every large ISP started with one customer. We have almost 300 local number areas in Sweden, and we serve the entire nation. Im having nightmares about how we are going to become DSL enabled, and how much money we have to put down to get it working. Today we run a single megapop in Stockholm and haul all the telephone and leased lines to that POP (Sweden is aprox 2000 Km long and 800 Km wide). We hope to maintain only the one megapop, or a couple of strategic superpops. Isent that a way to do it in the US? In that way you wont have to buy DSLAMs all over the place.
