Hi Guys,
I have not tested this myself over here however it looks like it should
work.
Why fastvid ?
Because with Pentium or PPro it can increase your vga thruput from
20MB/sec to 90Mb/sec .
Enjoy,
Amancio

Hi!
Jonh Dyson and I have hacked a DOS fastvid equivalent lkm for
FreeBSD. It enables VGA banked and VGA linear frame buffer Write
Combining for Pentium Pro and Pentium-II based mainboards.
It's only a skeleton up to now. You have to figure out the video
memory base address and size by reviewing the X server startup
output (look into the README)!
Up to now this lkm lacks SMP support.
I would be happy to hear from you about any improvement! Perhaps it
could be integrated into the 3.0-RELEASE. The speedup
can be quickly tested with xengine or xbench (roughly a factor of 2)!
The URL is
ftp://ftp.Uni-Bielefeld.DE/pub/systems/FreeBSD/lkoeller/fastvid.tar.gz
Have fun
Lars
