Not continue, but we recently introduced the naming scheme after some
discussion. This is because every version X.Y of NetHack is a
different game/world (i.e. save files are incompatible). Users would
not want to "upgrade" their NetHack installation or see a previous
version go as soon as the port is updated owing to only having one
non-versioned port.
