Hmm. Looks like -mcrypto has a similar status (gnu docuumetnation):

-mcrypto
-mno-crypto
Enable the use (disable) of the built-in functions that allow direct access=
 to
the cryptographic instructions that were added in version 2.07 of the Power=
PC
ISA.


Hopefully nss is figuring out to avoid using such instructions on
old PowerPC hardware.
