I agree, it would be sweet to have something closer to the metal than
VNC. As a data point, VirtualBox recently added support for VMSVGA (also
used by VMWare). As far as I can tell, vmwgfx (kernel driver for guest),
vmsvga (hypervisor part) are all dual or MIT licensed. Maybe that's
something we can use?
