I'm missing some punctuation here. Do you mean to say that you added some 
additional X11 base packages afterwards? If so then that's your problem. You 
will need to reconfigure your X, just like you did the first time. Afterwards 
I would recommend saving your /etc/X11/XF86Config file.

Otherwise, since it's looking for the config file in /etc instead of 
/etc/X11, start examing /etc/X11.
