Don't do that again please Brad :-) Sorry, I occasionally have run-ins with one of the very small percentage of the people in this company that are rather officious and smarmy, and I have a knee-jerk reaction that I'm sure is unfair to the vast majority. Or, were you complaining about the way the accented characters got mungled [0] by the time they arrived at your system? I do find it funny that on the web pages of L'Académie française at <http://www.academie-francaise.fr/>, when you click on buttons (such as the one labeled "Moteur de recherche"), it uses Javascript to pull up URLs such as "javascript:Pop2('./search/recherche.html','actu', 200, 200);". One wonders why they would use Javascript at all for this function (it does lock out the people who don't have Javascript-capable browers, most likely including most of the visually-impaired)? However, if they did have to use Javascript, one also wonders why the directory is named "./search" and not "./recherche"? In fact, why have a directory at all, if you're then going to reference the URL "recherche.html" within that directory? What about "index.html" -- have they changed the default for Apache to be "incrément.html" instead (or whatever the correct french word would be)? If they're going to be famously anal about protecting the language from all possible encroachment from foreign languages, it seems that they should apply these methods to their own website. In fact, it seems to me that they really should go all-out and change the site over to a completely translated XML format, and not use a single english word of HTML. [0] I define "mungled" to be a value with a proven minimum of munged + mangled, a typical value of munged * mangled, and a maximum theoretical upper bound of munged ^ mangled. To this degree, it is similar to SNEF -- Situation Normal, Everything FUBAR. -- These are my opinions -- not to be taken as official Skynet policy ====================================================================== Brad Knowles, <blk@skynet.be> || Belgacom Skynet SA/NV Systems Architect, Mail/News/FTP/Proxy Admin || Rue Colonel Bourg, 124 Phone/Fax: +32-2-706.13.11/12.49 || B-1140 Brussels http://www.skynet.be || Belgium To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-chat" in the body of the message
