DMA could be enabled in the kernel, but is conflicting with the hardware. Or DMA is not enabled in the kernel. Check your kernel config, and see whether DMA is either enabled or disabled. If it is enabled, disable it (or vice versa) and recompile the kernel. Try that and see how it goes.
