	make the new apache.
	pkg_delete the old apache.
	make install the new apache.

I've done this a couple of times, and it appears to work fine. The
pkg_delete doesn't remove the configuration file or the DocumentRoot.
However, I'd adivce you to take a copy of /usr/local/etc/apache just
in case.
