Of course, it's a quick work-around to simply initialize .TARGETOBJDIR in bsd.obj.mk (though I think I'd strip the leading dot off all references before actually committing it :-): This seems to work just fine when placed at the top of bsd.obj.mk, and all obj directores are now being made again correctly: .TARGETOBJDIR?= ${.CURDIR:S;^;${MAKEOBJTREE};} Jordan
