Your last message put the EIDE interface on the wrong side of the PCI
bridge, which sounded like a BIOS problem to me.

What manufacturer, make, model, and chipset does your motherboard have?

What wd controller are you using, and are you sure you have the wd
master/slave relationship correct?

Is the wd probed before or after other disk controllers according
to the boot messages?

Have you attempted to boot the kernel in configuration mode (-c at the
boot prompt) and disabled the ATAPI CDROM probe?


The message got through but did not contain enough information for anyone
to even give you an educated guess.
