Yes this is correct.

To enable the serial console on a 2100a you must set the console setting.

I've read all about it but so far had no need to use it as all previous
BSD's I have played with on it have been fine.

It was just sitting here dead for a few months but I finally found time to
set it all up. (I had to strip it to get it up the stairs)

In the mean time I've read most of the official DEC/Compaq release info on
it.
