What I'm saying is that the previous PCCARD code did not support fast
interrupts at all, and I was assuming (possibly wrongly) that the
re-written PCCARD code would overcome that weakness, so that people with
PCMCIA modems could run reliably run faster.

The 2.* code used the 'normal' interrupt mechanism for serial
interrupts, which imposes a much higher load on the system than fast
interrupts which causes the system to have silo overflows.
