If this is the case, I think we need to backport this to current python 3.8
(and 3.9?) ports. Have this been done in the upstream?  We can do it locally
but we also need to check it them won't cause other regressions. It would be
nice to work with the upstream to reduce the possible regressions, and let =
the
next version of 3.8 includes the fix.
