I'm really not talking about 10Mb connections here Tom, I'm just talking PRI's. I'm not sure that I understand the comparison...... -----Original Message----- From: Tom Wiebe [mailto:tom@imagefoundation.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 2002 6:29 PM To: Alain Parsons Cc: George Ramos; ispchat@bell.ca; julie.taylor@bell.ca; julie.allain@bell.ca; marc.morin@bell.ca; mike.gosselin@bell.ca; joanne.page@bell.ca; sherwood.flemming@bell.ca; leslie.williams@bell.ca; ken.white@bell.ca; sheila.ward@bell.ca; j.steele@bell.ca; anita.archambault@bell.ca; f.dubois-beauchamp@bell.ca; joelle.picard@bell.ca; stephanie.riley@bell.ca; diane.cincar@bell.ca; list@iip.ca; freebsd-isp@FreeBSD.ORG; caip-members@caip.ca Subject: Re: Competitor's PRI pricing and stuff that maybe you should all know about or already do.....? I almost choked on my coffee when the Bell rep quoted me something like $5400/month for 10Mb access into the building we're looking at leasing, especially given that they're actually in the same building. This compared to $400-$700 per month plus bandwidth from the competition. There's a very important difference here though, the price from Bell was for a guaranteed, 100% sustainable 10 Mb usage with no additional bandwidth charges. The others were quoting on 10 Mb available bandwidth, in the building! So if there's a bigger fish than you upstairs, you may as well be serving on a cable modem. Should you actually use a sustained 10 Mb of bandwidth with the competition 24/7 (or a substantial portion thereof), the Bell connection would look cheap by comparison. AT&T and GT both also offered similar packages to the Bell connection, at slightly less per month. In fairness to the competion, GT will guarantee that you have 10 Mb available at all times, but the $400 /month connection is only single duplex and if you really need that bandwidth, it's best to go for the whole enchilada. It will be interesting indeed to see what the CRTC says this week. I for one am really glad that I don't have to sign any contracts until next month! Looking at the balance sheets of the Canadian Telco's makes me feel like I'm some sort of genius when it comes to money management cause I've still got $20 free on my visa and rent for June in the bank. At least I know I'll have a roof over my head next month, which would be a stretch for any of the telcos here to claim right now.
