Dear Sean Noonan, I have thought of your problem again. Since I have to make world very soon, I feel somehow involved in your case :-) There might be a possibility that your errors are of hardware nature. You can check this at once eg by substituting pieces of RAM in your system. If it turns out to be the case, you should throw the culprit(s) to /dev/null, ehem, to the trashcan, as well as ... your hardware supplier ;-) Otherwise, make sure your sources are correctly updated and try the build again.
