People typically don't like new things that deal with the filesystem, and FreeBSD just went to CAM not too long ago, which upset a lot of people (particularly when favorite drivers broke under it) I suspect that they are taking this particular feature more slowly than usual. Certainly, if Soft Updates had been introduced back in the 2.0.X days it probably would have gone in without comment.
