Oddly enough, somehow this box was running on a 5.1-REL kernel and world to begin with. (The SATA drive is the only drive in the box). I dunno how they pulled that one off, but updating to 5.2.1-p1 is running fine for now. I did see that ICH5 was supported by ata under 5.2.1 but only up to ICH4 on 5.1.
