| At this point, if I cd /usr/ports/devel/kBuild && make

I can't reproduce it here, but it seems a parallel-build problem. kBuild
disables parallel builds (see bottom of ${WRKSRC}/bootstrap.gmk. Are you
somehow forcing parallelism? How many cores does your system have?
Please provide some more details on your HW and configuration :)
