Drive-by Commit! :P It seems that editors/AbiWord can't properly display Chinese due to the Abi-iconv removal. If it can't be fixed, maybe a chinese/AbiWord is necessary. :) And yes, my own build version can read/write both traditional Chinese & English .doc without any problem, though I didn't use advanced features of .doc, like macros. -- Keep it simple AND stupid.
