This message is posted weekly and contains a few tips for finding information quickly and efficiently It also contains a list of the most recently added articles from The FreeBSD Diary. It is posted in the hopes of making things easier for the users of this mailing list. Please let me know of any suggested amendments to this message. The freebsd-questions mailing list is one of the most heavily used FreeBSD resources. However, many of the questions asked here have already been answered. Time and time again. Make sure you aren't repeating the questions. It wastes your time and the time of others. Not to mention the bandwidth and archive space. Before you ask a question here, I suggest you first have a look at the following resources first. Learning where to find the answer is a great and valuable skill. It is more important than actually knowing the answer. Handbook - http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/index.html If you are new to FreeBSD, start with the handbook. At a minimum, read the table of contents which may save some strife at a later date. FAQ - http://www.freebsd.org/FAQ/FAQ.html The FAQ is just that, the most frequently asked questions. If your question is already answered here, expect to look a fool if you repeat the question in the mailing list. Tutorials - http://www.freebsd.org/tutorials/ The tutorials cover a wide range of topics from PPP to NTFS. Archives - http://www.freebsd.org/search/search.html#mailinglists You are not unique. Everything you want to do has been done before. And someone has already asked your question. Check the mailing list archives before you ask. You'll get your answer faster that way. FreeBSD Diary - http://www.freebsddiary.org/ The Diary is the largest collection of practical examples for FreeBSD. It covers a wide range of topics from changing your shell to installing and configuring Apache. New articles are regularly added. If you use the above resources, you will find your answers faster than posting a message to the freebsd-questions mailing list.
