The same thing happened to me under VMWare Workstation, when I installed FreeBSD 8.0-BETA4 on a (virtual) disk connected to a (virtual) LSI SAS adaptor. Installing on a IDE disk worked around the problem. It happened with the i386 as well as the amd64 version. Thomas
