When you were performing your install, you should have been asked if you wanted to install the ports tree. Did you say yes or no to that question? I'm just guessing, but you might have said no? To install the tree the "easy way", run /stand/sysinstall . From there, go into "configure", then "distributions", then select "ports". If you have the cd-rom, it should be a breeze.
