Thats *exactly* the problem I had when I reinstalled a server with
2.2.5-RELEASE !

 Background:
I had one server with 3.0-971117-SNAP installed on it; mgetty + user
PPP worked very well in this situation.
Then I had to reinstall the server (partitions were corrupted due to
malfunctioning memory that has been installed later). Since this was a
(probably unstable) SNAP I decided I should go for 2.2.5-RELEASE.
After I have reinstalled everything, compiled mgetty taking care to
insert "CFLAGS=-DAUTO_PPP" in the Makefile (shouldn't the packager
patches be modified to do that ?), configured and rebooted the user ppp
comported weird: Placing a call & connecting as well communication was OK,
but when the uses hang up the PPP daemon wouldn't exit.

I have tried to manually patch the src/usr.sbin/ppp/main.c file based on
the CVS log, but nothing changed.
Thing is that 3.0-971117-SNAP has *NO* problem like that. And further
more, the version of ppp in the 2.2.5-RELEASE seems to be far too old,
many commands that appeared in the 3.0-current branch I couldn't find in
the 2.2.5 branch...
