Hello John, As luck would have it, I found an answer all of 30min after taking the time to post to the list.. :) Anyway I agree that having some better documentation in the FBSD manual would sure be a nice thing, but know I am not really the right person for that job. Anyway what seemed to help me was a Web URL I ran across, and here is is for anyone who is interested: http://www.realtime.net/sculpture/nis-startup.html Looking at this most of what I had seemed right, but I was not adding the '-t /etc/master.passwd' flags to the yppasswddflags line on startup, so things were broken. Well in the end, I think I have it running, sorry for bothering the list, and hopefully the above link may be handy to someone.
