XML does... Is > that wrong? Depends on the DTD and the element in question. Some tags (like <br> in HTML) don't need a closing tag, some (like <em> in HTML) do. In XML, all elements need a closing tag, unless the element is empty, in which case you can use the short form, like <br /> - note that the space is required by the specification, though not all XML parsers will complain if it's missing.
