It completed "make buildworld" with DC390U/F!! It seems very stable now. Also, the completion time of "make buildworld" was about 78% of that of without "softupdate", so it must be working. Isn't it possible to be because of the implementation detail differences of drivers (Adaptec 2940U/W vs. DC390U/F<ncr53c875>)? My dmesg says; : : : : Probing for devices on PCI bus 0: chip0: <Intel 82440FX (Natoma) PCI and memory controller> rev 0x02 on pci0.0.0 chip1: <Intel 82371SB PCI to ISA bridge> rev 0x01 on pci0.1.0 ide_pci0: <Intel PIIX3 Bus-master IDE controller> rev 0x00 on pci0.1.1 vga0: <Matrox MGA 2064W graphics accelerator> rev 0x01 int a irq 9 on pci0.9.0 ncr0: <ncr 53c875 fast20 wide scsi> rev 0x03 int a irq 12 on pci0.10.0 ncr0: waiting for scsi devices to settle scbus0 at ncr0 bus 0 sd0 at scbus0 target 0 lun 0 sd0: <SEAGATE ST34555W 0930> type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd0: Direct-Access sd0: WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled sd0: 40.0 MB/s (50 ns, offset 15) 4340MB (8888924 512 byte sectors) : : : ahc0: <Adaptec 2940 Ultra SCSI host adapter> rev 0x00 int a irq 11 on pci0.12.0 ahc0: aic7880 Wide Channel, SCSI Id=7, 16/255 SCBs ahc0: waiting for scsi devices to settle scbus1 at ahc0 bus 0 ahc0:A:6: refuses WIDE negotiation.
